LANCASTER, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team earned a pair of wins in a doubleheader against Ohio University-Lancaster on Sunday afternoon.
Game 1 vs Ohio-Lancaster, W 14-4 (7 innings)
The Crusaders took control early, putting together a seven-run second inning. Capital loaded the bases before four consecutive hits. The hits included a single from Jake Foley (Pataskala, Ohio), doubles from Brett Colburn (Liberty Township, Ohio) and Logan Bastin (Mansfield, Ohio), and a home run from Justin Ennis (Vista, Calif).
Christian Ross (Bucryus, Ohio) and Foley scored two runs apiece while four Crusaders recorded multiple RBIs. Capital finished with 15 hits while Ohio-Lancaster managed to get three.
Austin Underwood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) pitched for the first three innings, allowing four hits and two runs. Joseph Borkey (Kirtland Hills, Ohio) entered the game in the fourth inning to relieve Underwood, striking out four batters.
Game 2 vs Ohio-Lancaster, W 12-0 (7 innings)
After two scoreless innings, the Crusaders got on the board with hits from Matthew Carnahan (Moundsville, W. Va.), Bastin, and Colburn.
The Crusaders took advantage of Ohio-Lancaster's pitching struggles in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs by getting walked with the bases loaded. Capital also was rewarded with another run when Tyler Cetnarowski (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) got hit by a pitch.
Ary went 4-for-4 at the plate and was responsible for four of Capital's runs.
Freshman Patrick Avellano (New Albany, Ohio) recorded three strikeouts in his four innings at pitcher and was awarded the win.
