COLUMBUS, Ohio – Following a record-breaking weekend at Marietta College, Capital University quarterback Thomas Wibbeler was recognized nationally by being named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week on September 11, 2018.
Wibbeler, a senior from Zanesville, Ohio, racked up a school single-game record 511 yards through the air and tossed for five touchdowns, three times hitting senior wideout Dartavious Stanford. He became the first Capital player to throw for 400 yards since Marty Assman did so in 2008. Through two weeks he has yet to throw an interception while grinding out eight passing touchdowns.
Not only did Wibbeler get it done through the air but for the second week in a row, he served as the Crusaders' leading rusher. Against Marietta College on September 8, Wibbeler rushed 19 times for 85 yards and scored an additional touchdown. His rushing touchdown put Capital in a position to win the game before coming up just short on a two-point conversion try.
This marks the first time Wibbeler has been named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week and is the first Capital player to don the honor since 2007 when wide receiver Evan Blake had an 11-catch, 304-yard performance in just his second career start.
