Jeff Gongwer has spent four seasons on the Capital men’s basketball staff.

Gongwer has been a fixture in the Westerville, Ohio basketball scene over the last decade after serving multiple Westerville high schools as an assistant coach. For six seasons, he was an assistant at Westerville North High School and then transitioned into a varsity assistant coaching position at Westerville Central, a title he held for three seasons. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Otterbein University for one season.

From 2012 to 2014, Gongwer spent time in the AAU ranks with the Ohio Hoopsters U16 and U17 teams. He also assisted Prep Spotlight Magazine in scouting top-level talent throughout the Midwest.

Gongwer was a two-sport athlete at nearby Westerville North prior to playing baseball collegiately at the University of Rio Grande (NAIA). He graduated with a degree in business management and owns two successful RE/MAX real estate offices in Central Ohio.

He and his wife, Cathy McKenzie, have been married for 30 years and have two daughters, Jessica Horton and Kelli Gongwer.
