COLUMBUS – The Capital University men's lacrosse team improved to 2-1 on the season with a gritty 7-5 victory over Siena Heights (Mich.) in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon.

Following a scoreless first period, freshman Nick Hess (Horseheads, N.Y.) got the Crusaders on the board first, scoring the game's initial goal just over a minute and a half into the second quarter. Classmate in Connor Simon (Sylvania, Ohio) then followed less than a minute later with a man-up goal, coming off an assist by freshman Brent Walton (Pickerington, Ohio).

Siena Heights recorded its first goal of the game with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half, before the Crusaders responded with back-to-back goals within a span of two minutes.

Walton found fellow freshman Travis Massey (Delaware, Ohio) at the 6:10 mark in the second quarter, while Simon then setup Walton for a score of his own just two minutes later.

The Saints tacked on another goal just before the one minute warning in the opening half.

As the second half of play unfolded, Walton again found the back of the net on an assist by Simon with 8:45 left in the third period, while the Saints managed to ink the scoreboard with just one second to play before the final period.

Siena Heights again scored just over a minute and a half into the fourth quarter, but Hess responded following a penalty on the Saints, scoring off an assist by Walton to increase the Crusaders lead to 6-4 at the 12:49 mark.

The Saints responded with a goal at the 5:15 mark to cut the deficit to a one goal lead for Capital, before Walton sealed the victory, finding the back of the net off an assist by freshman Parker Marsch (Big Walnut, Ohio) with 1:13 left in the game.

Freshman goalie Jordan Adkins (Lubbock, Tx.) was impressive in the net for the Crusaders, saving eight of 13 shots faced.
