AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Capital University Men's Lacrosse has won seven games in a row and has not lost in more than a month. One of the big reasons for that is undoubtedly the play of CJ Hughes, the team's leading scorer and latest Ohio Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The OAC announced the weekly award on Monday.
Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) and the Crusaders played two games this past week and Hughes totaled 14 points in those contests. On Wednesday against the College of Wooster, Hughes recorded a season-high 10 points with six goals and a career-best four assists. Each of those points were crucial for the Crusaders to win 12-9.
On Saturday, Capital began OAC play with a 16-12 win over Baldwin Wallace University on the road. Hughes was one of three Crusaders to score three goals and have an assist on the day, tying for the team lead with four points.
Over the two games, the junior attacker also picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover.
Hughes leads Capital with 44 points, 29 goals and 14 assists. He is also the leading goalscorer among OAC players and is second in points.
Hughes and the rest of the Crusaders will look to extend their winning streak to eight games on Saturday, March 30 against Muskingum University. The Crusaders and Fighting Muskies will face off at 1 p.m. on Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium.
