CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Capital University men's soccer team was in action Saturday afternoon against Thomas More College. Cap extends its winning streak to seven matches with a 2-0 victory. Alexander Basiakos and Cheyn Roux score for Capital.
The Saints started the game with a shot just a minute into the match.
Capital was the first to score at the 41-minute mark. Senior Alexander Basiakos (Hilliard, Ohio/ Hilliard Bradley) scored his second goal of the season as he beat the Thomas More goalie. Senior Jacob Pulliam (Westerville, Ohio/ Westerville North) recorded his second assist on the season.
Despite being outshot in the first half, 8-3, Capital still took a 1-0 lead into the half.
The Crusaders leading scorer, senior Cheyn Roux, scored his sixth goal of the season. At the 80-minute mark, Roux was able to beat the Saints keeper. Cap now leads 2-0.
Junior Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio) recorded his sixth win of the season and his fourth shutout on the season.
The Capital defense proved to be strong again by holding Thomas More to just one shot on goal out of 11 total shots.
The Crusaders are now on a seven-match winning streak. The streak is currently second in the Great Lakes Region, only Kenyon College has a better winning streak at eight matches. Capital is also currently tied for third in the Great Lakes Region with an overall record of 7-1.
Cap returns to action on Sept. 28 as they take on the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University. The Battling Bishops are ranked No. 10 in the latest D3soccer.com polls. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
