Niswonger Repeats as OAC Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – For the second week in a row, Capital University junior Justin Niswonger was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week. The honor was announced Monday afternoon by the conference office, and comes after another week of spotless play that led Capital to a pair of wins.

Niswonger, a native of Centerville, Ohio (Centerville), put together his third and fourth consecutive shutouts, and sixth overall on the season. His hot streak continues even with the opposition's strength increasing with recent wins over regionally-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University and rival Otterbein University. Combined, the junior tallied 13 saves over his last 180:00 of play and to date has only allowed one goal in 697:56 played this season.

Of the six saves that came on the road against Otterbein, one stood out among the rest. With less than six minutes remaining in regulation and Capital up by one goal, the Cardinals maneuvered off of a free kick and opened up a hole for a shot that Niswonger dove across his body to the far post and knocked away to take a sure goal off the board and preserve the team's lead. Capital went on to win, 1-0, taking their currently winning streak to nine games.

Niswonger continues his reign as OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week after initially being tabbed the recipient on Sept. 26 following two more pitched shutouts, one against The College of Wooster and the second against regionally-ranked Thomas More College (Ky.). He is now not just atop the OAC in many statistical categories, but also leads the nation in goals-against average (0.129) and save percentage (.964).

Capital looks to continue its streak against Wilmington at home on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
