KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Recently, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced its 2016 all-region teams. Capital University seniors Alexander Basiakos and Jacob Pulliam earned places on the All-Great Lakes Region Second Team following strong finishes to their soccer careers.

The announcement of their most recent award compliments their respective Player of the Year awards handed out by the Ohio Athletic Conference following the conclusion of the conference tournament. Pulliam was named Midfielder of the Year while Basiakos reeled in Defensive Player of the Year laurels from the OAC.

Basiakos was a dangerous scorer from his defender position, posting the second-most goals on the squad with five. The Hilliard, Ohio native proved to be a force in either box as a close-range attacker or on the defensive end in front of all-conference goalkeeper, Justin Niswonger. He was part of an offense that tallied 37 goals in 20 games, and allowed just 1.16 goals per contest, this season.

Pulliam, a product of Westerville, Ohio (Westerville North), led the Crusaders with six assists from the middle of the field and had 12 points on the season after figuring in his three goals. One of those was a game-winner, and he was 2-for-2 on penalty kicks. This is Pulliam's second trip to the Great Lakes All-Region team after earning a spot on the third team in 2015.

With the aid of Basiakos and Pulliam, Capital started the year strongly with 10 wins in its first 11 games, all consecutive. Attached to that streak was an unbeaten mark of 14 matches that went midway through the conference schedule. Capital finished 14-4-2 overall, posting the most overall wins since 2009 (16) third most in recorded program history.
