KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Capital University senior Justin Niswonger of the men's soccer team has been named a Third Team Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) organization. The announcement was released on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 8, 2017.

Justin Niswonger (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) was named Third Team Scholar All-America marking the first such award of his storied career at Capital. The goalkeeper was named a First Team Scholar All-Region selection earlier in the first, qualifying him for All-America status.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or higher (on a 4.0 scale), start more than 50 percent of all games and be an elite player as supported by playing honors and team record.

Niswonger becomes Capital's second USC (formerly NSCAA) Scholar All-American in program history, joining Bob Weisgarber '13 to have accomplished the feat.

With the aid of Niswonger's acrobatics between the posts, Capital advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament for the second time in program history as an at-large selection and collected its first win at the national tournament. He finished the year with a 12-8-2 overall record, seven shutouts, 79 saves, and a 1.11 goals-against average. For his efforts he was named OAC Goalkeeper of the Year, a first team All-OAC selection, and named to the USC All-Region Third Team.

Over the course of his career, Niswonger has collected 22 shutouts and posted a 36-17-6 record since taking over as the team's regular starter in 2015. He has a career goals-against average of 1.26 and more than 200 saves in 63 games played. Niswonger is a three-time All-OAC pick and a 2016 OSCA Division III All-Ohio selection, in addition to the accolades he collected this year.
