Capital Men's Cross Country Finishes 24th at Great Lakes Regional

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Capital University men's cross country team participated in the DIII Great Lakes Regional Championship at Calvin College on Saturday afternoon. Capital placed 24th out of 37 teams. 

Freshman Alexander Hansel led the Crusaders with a time of 25:50.3, placing 86th out of 255 participants. This marks Hansel's career-best 8k time and the fastest finish for Capital Men's Cross Country this season. 

Freshman Tyler Gunderson finished second for the Crusaders and 129th overall with a time of 26:23.4. This was also a personal best for Gunderson. 

Freshman Zach Brown crossed the finish line a mere two seconds behind Gunderson, placing 130th. Like his fellow teammates, Brown also set a new PR. 

Also scoring for Capital was sophomore Maxwell Zawatsky (26:49.5, 153rd), senior Christian Vermillion (27:28.5, 185th) and sophomore Grant Ward (27:48.4, 201st). All of their finishes were personal bests. 

Calvin University took home the team title after logging 43 points, defeating Otterbein University (64) for the trophy. Chase Hampton from Otterbein earned the individual title, finishing the 8k race with a time of 24:02.4.
