Crusaders Open Season with 1-0 Loss to Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. – The Capital University women's soccer team played in its first contest of the 2015 season, but found itself on the losing end of a 1-0 decision. The Crusaders fell to Olivet College (Mich.) on Tuesday evening at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

Despite the loss, junior goalkeeper Alexis Brand (Orlando, Fla.) made nine saves of 10 shots taken by the Comets. Five of those saves came in the first half, a half in which Olivet took a total of 11 shot attempts. Her nine saves was two short of a career-high 11 she made last season against Carnegie Mellon University.

Olivet's lone goal came in the 28th minute off of the foot of Madeline Maxwell when she drove up the field, beating the Capital defense to create a close-range attempt. While Brand challenged the charge, Maxwell directed her shot around Brand from three yards out to take an early lead.

Capital (0-1) challenged Olivet goalkeeper Deanna Zolnoski with 11 shot attempts, landing six on frame. Junior Megan Lindbert (Roselle, Ill.) put all three of her shot attempts on goal to lead the Crusaders.

Capital will seek its first win of the season in the school's inaugural night game at Bernlohr Stadium. The Crusaders will host SUNY-Fredonia on Friday, Sept. 4 with a 7 p.m. kickoff set. It marks the first of three consecutive home matches, two of which will be played over the weekend.
