COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team went on to win its fourth game of the season, dominating play in its 2-0 victory over Defiance College on Saturday evening. Capital is now 4-2-0 on the season heading into Tuesday's matchup with Denison University.
Capital's defense clamped down and made easy work for goalkeeper Kim Leitch (Rocky River, Ohio). The senior earned her second win and second shutout of the season, though Defiance was limited to just one shot attempt over the course of the game.
Defiance was forced to play with fewer than 10 position players after injuries put them a player down early in the first half and then a second injury late in the game put them two players down.
Meanwhile, Capital aggressively pushed forward and fired off 29 shots over 90 minutes of play. Twenty of those came in the first half alone.
While Meredith Remy made 11 saves on 13 chances, the Crusaders found the back of the net twice to lead them to victory. Sophomore defender Mary Bushee (San Marcos, Calif.) finished off a crossing attempt from Chloe Brown (Monclova, Ohio) in the 30th minute. The goal was her third of the season.
Kiley Buchanan served and Capital's second goal scorer, posting her first goal of her collegiate career. The score came inside the 18-yard box from the near-side of the pitch. Coveting a loose ball, she connected and slid one inside the near-side low post for the goal.
Senior Morgan Austin nearly added to that lead, hitting the crossbar off her open shot from nearly 25 yards out before the end of the first half.
Capital will play its final nonconference home game on Tuesday, Sept. 22 when the Crusaders host Denison University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
