ALLIANCE, Ohio– Capital Women's Soccer defeated the University of Mount Union, 4-1, Saturday evening at Mount Union Stadium. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 11-4-0 overall, 4-1-0 in the OAC, while the Purple Raiders drop to 5-6-1, 1-3-0 in conference play.
ROTOLO WITH THE FIRST
In the 8th minute of play, senior Jordan Fike (Powell, Ohio) sent a long ball from the 35-yard line up to sophomore Olivia Rotolo (Dublin, Ohio) who ran past a Mount Union defender and sent the ball into the right corner of the net. This was Capital's first goal of the match.
FIKE INCREASES THE LEAD
Capital Sophomore Gabbi Viggiano (Hilliard, Ohio) chipped the ball over several defenders into Mount Unions defending third in the 21st minute. Fike got her foot on the ball, just outside of the box and sent it just inside the left post, marking Capital's second goal of the evening. Fike is Capital's leading goal scorer this season, tonight's goal marking her eighth of the season and 23rd of her career.
CRUSADERS WITH THREE
In the middle of the second half, freshman Avery Hart (Pickerington, Ohio) got the ball, dribbled up the field and took a strike from the 10-yard line sending the ball high into the back of the net. Hart's goal was her seventh of the season.
PURPLE RAIDERS ADD ONE
In the 73rd minute, Mount Union's Julia Krause scored to put the Purple Raiders on the board. Her goal was assisted by Sara Thomas.
COUNTS WITH THE FINAL GOAL
In the last ten minutes of the game, sophomore Hillary Counts (Canal Winchester, Ohio) beat several defenders in the box and sent the ball into the top-left corner of the net for the Crusaders fourth and final goal of the match.
The Crusaders will take on Muskingum University, Wednesday, October 23 at home. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
