COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fans of the Purple and White volleyball team will have more opportunities to see the Crusaders play at home in 2019. Capital University Volleyball has revealed its season schedule, which features 13 home games.
The 2019 season comes out strong with four games in two days as the Crusaders play host to the first annual Pam Briggs Classic, a tournament remembering the memory and contributions of the late, great Capital volleyball coach. Capital will open the season on August 30 with matches against Hiram College and Lawrence College that evening and then return to play Defiance College and St. John Fisher College the following day.
The Purple and White will hit the road for more than two weeks before returning to The Cap Center. While on the trail CU will participate in two tournaments, the first at the University of Rochester on September 6-7. Other nonconference opponents in early to mid-September include Earlham College (9/3), Rochester Institute of Technology (9/7), and Ohio Christian University (9/10). Cap's second tournament will be the Hanover Invitational in Indiana where the Crusaders will play host Hanover and Trine College on September 13 and follow with two more matches against Franklin College (Ind.) and Adrian College (Mich.) the following day.
The next four games on the docket will be played at The Capital Center when the Crusaders welcome Ohio University - Chillicothe to the floor on September 17. Two days later, CU will square off with La Roche College prior to its one-day Capital Invitational that it will host on Saturday, September 21. Cap will close out the month with three road matches, including a tri-match against Manchester College and Franklin.
October will be a very busy month but feature a balanced schedule with five home matches to four away from The Cap Center. The Crusaders will hope OAC play at home on Saturday, October 5 against Baldwin Wallace University and follow with another home match against Heidelberg on October 8. They will bookend the month with two more home matches against Ohio Northern University on October 26 and Wilmington on October 29. The regular season will round out with a rivalry showdown against Otterbein on Saturday, November 2 at The Rike Center in Westerville.
Capital looks to bounce back after a winless season in 2018 and return to the OAC Tournament for the first time in four years.
