COLUMBUS – The Capital University football team took on its third straight ranked opponent Saturday and was defeated 58-3 against consensus No. 1 Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest at Bernlohr Stadium.

The Crusaders (1-5 overall, 1-4 OAC) were outgained 551-144 yards and committed a season-high six turnovers in the contest.

The Purple Raiders (6-0, 5-0) led 31-0 at halftime and didn't look back, averaging 8.2 yards per play and holding Capital to a net total of minus-5 passing yards.

Junior kicker Travis Bosanac (Strongville, Ohio) connected on a 36-yard field goal just over five minutes into the third quarter to put the Crusaders on the board. The kick capped a 10-play, 49-yard Capital drive.

Freshman quarterback Chase Longwell (Hilliard, Ohio) led the Capital offense with 54 yards rushing, all coming in the first half. Senior slot back Alex Coleman (Columbus, Ohio) posted 33 yards on just five carries.

Senior defensive back Domenic Hebebrand (Hinckley, Ohio) led the defense with 10 tackles. Sophomore linebacker Bryant Bokovitz added seven stops, including two for a loss and a sack.

The Crusaders turned Mount Union over twice during the affair. Freshman defensive tackle Vince Austin (Highland Heights, Ohio) stripped running back Germany Woods deep in Capital territory, and freshman defensive back Dallas Banks (Crestwood, Ky.) recovered for the Crusaders late in the first quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, junior defensive back Anthony Cicione (Akron, Ohio) picked off quarterback Taurice Scott for his second interception of the season.

Capital continues OAC play next Saturday at Baldwin Wallace. Kickoff in Berea, Ohio is slated for 1:30 p.m.
