COLUMBUS, Ohio –  Capital University Men's and Women's Golf kicked off a two-day match play tournament being referred to as The Columbus Cup, and made a splash in its debut. Both teams won their respective matches to set up exciting championships on Sunday at Royal American Links in Galena.

The Crusaders landed at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury and were joined by the men's and women's golf teams from Marietta College, Otterbein University and Ohio Northern University. Capital was set up to play Marietta on Saturday while Otterbein and Ohio Northern established the second half of the opening day.

The tournament was set up in a classic match play format in which its seven best would take to the links and go head-to-head with a competitor from the other team. An individual win is worth one point, a tie one-half a point, and a loss zero points. The winning teams will meet on Sunday, while the losing teams will compete against one another.

The men's golf team defeated Marietta by a wide margin, 7.5 to 0.5 and will now play rival Otterbein in the championship round on Sunday.

The women's golf team defeated Marietta with key victories by Kari Hogan and Molly Frey on the backend to clinch Saturday action, 4-3. The Crusaders will play Ohio Northern on Sunday.

Tee time will commence at 10 a.m. from Royal American Links in Galena, Ohio. Official results will be tabulated and available after the tournament's conclusion.
