Capital Tops Mount Union, 2-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Capital Men's Soccer defeated the University of Mount Union, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 6-4-3 overall, 3-2-0 in the OAC, while the Purple Raiders drop to 8-2-3, 2-1-2 in conference play. 

MOUNT UNION SCORES EARLY
Eight minutes into the game, Mount Union's Josh Lewis chipped the ball in front of the net causing a scramble in the box. Rylan Wikle took a shot, which was blocked by senior Greg Knox (Oxford, Mich.). Colton Priester came into contact with the blocked shot and buried the ball into the back of the net. Mount Union took the early lead. 

NIEMEIER TIES IT UP 
In the 17th minute of play, junior Matt Scheper (Cincinnati, Ohio) sent the ball to junior Shane Niemeier (Bellbrook, Ohio) who took a few touches and shot the ball past Mount Union's goalkeeper and into the back of the net, tying up the score. This was Niemeier's second goal of the season and third of his career.

HUGHES WITH THE PK 
Less than two minutes after Niemeier's goal, a foul was called on Mount Union's Josh Lewis in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the Purple and White. Sophomore Mitch Hughes (Clintonville, Ohio) took the kick for the Crusaders. The ball sailed past Mount Union's goalkeeper and the Capital took the lead. This marks Hughes's second goal of the season.

The Crusaders will take on Muskingum University, Wednesday, October 23 at 7 p.m. The game will take place at the North Athletic Turf Field.
