Capital Battles Ohio Northern to 2-2 Double OT Draw

COLUMBUS, Ohio– Capital Men's Soccer battled Ohio Northern to a 2-2 draw on Saturday evening at Bernlohr Stadium. With the tie, the Crusaders sit at 7-4-4 overall and 4-2-1 in the OAC.

UP BY ONE 
The Crusaders started the second half with a bang, coming off a scoreless first. In the 66th minute, senior Greg Knox (Oxford, Mich.) took a free kick for the Crusaders, sending the ball into Ohio Northern's defending third. Following a scramble in the box, freshman Mujahid Abdel-Ghani (Toledo, Ohio) settled the ball and sent it into the top left corner of the net to put the Crusaders on the board. 

ONU PUTS ONE ON THE BOARD 
Ohio Northern tied up the score in the 80th minute off a free kick opportunity that was sent to the net. Kyle Morais saved the shot but was unable to hold onto the ball. Ohio Northern's Jimmy Walkinson tipped the loose ball into the net for the Polar Bear's first goal of the match.  

TAKING BACK THE LEAD
Five minutes following Ohio Northern's goal, senior Trevor Collins (Powell, Ohio) beat a defender off the ball and took a shot just inside the box. The ball rolled past Ohio Northern's goalkeeper and into the lower right corner of the net. The Crusaders took the lead once again.

TIED UP 
Late in the second half, Ohio Northern was presented with a free kick opportunity. The ball was sent inside the box and Noah Bachwitz got a head on it. The ball hit the crossbar and eventually crosses the line and made its way into the net for the Polar Bear's second goal. 

DOUBLE OT
Both teams battled it out in the rain for two overtimes, but neither side was able to break through and secure a victory. Ohio Northern had six shots in overtime and the Crusaders had a total of two. 

UP NEXT 
The Crusaders will take on Wilmington College, Wednesday, October 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
