WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Capital University Men's Track & Field concluded the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday and added 20 points to the team's total from Friday to finish in eighth place with 28 points.
Sophomore thrower Josh Miller was the highlight of Capital's day on Saturday, claiming the OAC title in the shot put. Miller came into the competition leading the OAC in the event and proved his dominance by launching a throw of 16.07 meters (52-08 ¾) on his sixth and final attempt to lead the 18-man field. This is the first OAC title of Miller's career, fourth consecutive shot put win and fifth overall event win of the season.
Miller also placed fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.59 meters (159-05) while Spencer Smith finished 13th in the hammer.
In the high jump, senior John Seman cleared 1.88 meters on his first try to place seventh.
Nate Hayes achieved a mark of 12.61 meters (41-04 ½) in the triple jump, good enough for an eighth-place finish.
In the 4x100-meter relay, the team of Joseph Eskra, Noah Meeker, Carter Moore and Cole Williams placed seventh with a time of 44.54 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team made up of Corbin Brown, Meeker, Grant Ward and Williams combined to finish in 3:28.81 in eighth place.
The Crusaders will look to improve their marks next Friday, May 3 at the Ohio University Open.
