COLUMBUS, Ohio- This weekend the Capital University men's cross country team will compete in the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship, hosted by John Carroll University.
This year's championships will be held at the Liberty Park Recreation Area, located in Twinsburg, Ohio on Saturday, November 2. The men's 8,000-meter championship race will begin at 11 a.m.
The Crusaders are set to be paced by freshman Alexander Hansel, who has shown substantial progress throughout the season. Hansel has been Cap's top finisher in all but two races this season. His 8k personal record came this season at the JennaStrong Fall Classic which was clocked at 27:15.8.
Freshman Zachary Brown is also one to watch this weekend. Brown has been the next Crusader to cross the line for nearly every race this season. His personal best 8k time also took place at the JennaStrong Fall Classic. Brown finished in 27:21.7, placing 20th overall.
In addition to Hansel and Brown, the Crusaders will have three other runners who will be experiencing their first OAC Championships. Those include freshmen, Andy Fullmer, Tyler Gunderson, and Trenton Thompson. Sophomore's Grant Ward and Daniel McPherson, as well as junior Jonas Pyle will return to the OAC championships as veterans. Ward crossed the line first for the Crusaders last year, leading the team with a run of 30:10.1. McPherson and Pyle completed the race not far behind Ward, finishing just seconds apart from one another.
Last year the Crusaders finished ninth overall with a team score of 274.
The top 18 runners on both men's and women's sides will earn all-conference honors. First team distinctions will be given to those who place first through ninth and second team honors are reserved for those who finish 10th through 18th.
