AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – In the first weekly awards poll of the year, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced that Capital University's Leanna Cotton has been tabbed Softball Hitter of the Week.
Cotton's weekly success was catapulted by a monster day against Lyndon State University, a day in which she went 5-for-5, had three extra-base hits and eight RBIs. That performance was part of a 25-0 romp over the Hornets on Opening Day.
The senior from Okeechobee, Fla. was a huge part of Capital's successful trip to Florida in a week where the team went 7-1. Over the course of the week, Cotton posted a .517 batting average (15-29) that included four doubles, two triples and one home run. Her destruction at the dish led to a slugging percentage of .897. Cotton drove in 16 runs and scored nine of her own. She hit safely in seven of the team's eight games and has four consecutive games with at least one RBI.
The Crusaders will get back into action on Friday, March 13 where they begin their stay at the Salisbury University Tournament. They will play Rutgers University-Camden and Lynchburg on day one beginning at 11 a.m.
