AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Capital University softball standout LeAnna Cotton has earned her third Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week honor this year after putting together a record-breaking week at the plate.
In a six-game span, Cotton, a senior from Okeechobee, Fla., drove in 16 base runners while the Crusaders went 5-1 overall and clinched their spot in the upcoming OAC Softball Tournament. While collecting a plethora of RBIs, she broke the Capital single-season RBI record once held by current assist coach Devan Boggs. Cotton now has a total of 61 ribbies heading into the final week of the season with six games left to play.
Over the course of the week, Cotton went 10-for-21 at the plate, finishing with a batting average of .476. Of her 10 hits, six went for extra bases and four were home runs. She now has nine home runs this season, tying teammate Maura Rose for most in the OAC, and 16 doubles, which ties the current single-season doubles mark that is also held by Boggs.
Cotton has now earned the Hitter of the Week award three times this season and twice this month.
Capital will get back into action this Wednesday with a nonconference doubleheader against Kenyon College, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Clowson Field.
