Cartmill, Hanayik Score Twice in Win Over Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital women's soccer team lost the shutout bid in the remaining seconds of the second half but still rolled to a 4-1 victory over Wilmington College on Tuesday night.

Capital scored early in the first half when junior Becca Cartmill (Temecula, Calif.) scored on a header from eight yards out off of a corner from junior Monique Hanayik (Sidney, Ohio) in the 16th minute. The goal gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead which they would take into the half.

Cartmill would strike again early in the second half. Junior Claire Quinn (Coto de Caza, Calif.), placed a through ball that led to a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Cartmill beat the keeper to the lower right side of goal, giving Capital a 2-0 lead.

The Crusaders would score in the 65th minute when Hanayik flicked the ball over the keeper who came out too far, making the lead 3-0.

Hanayik joined Cartmill in the "two-goal club" in the 75th minute when she flicked the ball past the keeper who came out too far to try and stop a through ball from Quinn. That goal gave the Crusaders a four-goal lead.

The Crusaders defense surrendered Wilmington's only in the last 31 seconds of the match, that by Erika Good.

Senior Kim Leitch (Rocky River, Ohio) recoded her fifth win of the season while making three saves. Freshman Hannah Klotsche mopped up the final 14 minutes and allowed Wilmington's goal.

Quinn finished the game with two assists. For Cartmill and Hanayik, Tuesday marked the second time each had scored two goals in a game, this season.

Capital (8-4, 4-0 OAC) will be in action again at Ohio Northern University on Saturday Oct. 17 at 3 p.m.
