Crusaders Extend Streak, Remain Unbeaten in OAC

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University Women's soccer team overpowered the Marietta College Pioneers to a 3-1 victory in an evening outing at Bernlohr Stadium.

Plagued by early offside flags, Capital got back online in the 19th minute when forward Becca Cartmill (Temecula, Calif.) found the back of the net beyond the outstretched hands of opposing keeper.The junior struck a well-placed through ball from senior Maura Fortino (Philadelphia, Pa.) to get them on the board early.

The relentless offensive attack from the Crusaders kept the Pioneer keeper, Rebecca Tenney, very busy as she racked up 18 total saves in the evening's contest.

The second half was all Capital as the Crusaders were able to outpace the Pioneers (0-16-0, 0-6-0 OAC) during a six-minute stretch late in the half with a barrage shots. The result was two additional goals being scored by the home team.

Opening up this burst of energy was senior Mariah Richards in the 68th minute scoring off a loose ball inside the box. Wrapping it up in the 74th minute was sophomore Chloe Brown (Monclova, Ohio) ripping a shot into the upper left corner following a cross from junior Monique Hanayik (Sidney, Ohio).

The Crusaders (10-4-1, 6-0-0 OAC) has now won six straight matches and look to keep their spotless conference record intact against John Carroll University on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Bernlohr Stadium. Kickoff is set for7 p.m.
