Women’s Soccer Awaits John Carroll in OAC Tournament Semifinals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After winning five of its past six matches, Capital University Women's Soccer earned a first-round bye and the two-seed in the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.

No. 2 Capital (9-7-1, 7-2-0 OAC) will play the No. 3 John Carroll University Blue Streaks on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium. John Carroll (11-5-2, 6-2-1 OAC) beat No. 6 University of Mount Union (10-7-1, 4-4-1 OAC) 3-1 in one first-round matchup and No. 4 Otterbein University (13-4-1, 5-4 OAC) defeated No. 5 Baldwin Wallace University (11-8-1, 4-4-1 OAC) 3-0 in the other on Monday night.

Ohio Northern University (16-1-1, 9-0-0 OAC) is the top-seeded team in the tournament and will host Otterbein on Wednesday.

The Crusaders have only lost twice in the month of October and are currently on a two-game win streak.

Sophomore forward Carlee Murry (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) scored twice in Capital's final regular season matchup, a 3-1 win against Baldwin Wallace. Murry also scored in Cap's 3-0 win against Heidelberg on Oct. 24.

Capital has outscored its opponents 24-7 in OAC play and have only given up more than one goal in one OAC match, a 2-1 loss to John Carroll on Oct. 21. Freshman goalkeeper Kelly Bachman (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) has started all of Capital's OAC matches this year and is tied for second in the conference in save percentage (.831).

The Crusaders last won the OAC Tournament in 2015 after going 9-0 in the OAC that year and then beating Ohio Northern on penalty kicks in the championship.  

Last year, Capital lost to Mount Union in the semifinals by a score of 3-2.
