Women's Track and Field Place Seventh at OAC Championships

MARIETTA, Ohio – Capital Women's Track and Field wrapped up its indoor season at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship, held at Dyson Baudo Recreation Center (Marietta, Ohio), on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders placed seventh in a field of 10 teams.

The throwers managed to take three of the top eight places in the shot put. Sophomore Amber Thomas (Cleveland, Ohio) had a personal best of 12.52 meters (41-0), earning a third-place finish and a spot as an All-OAC performer. Ashley Freshkorn (Columbus, Ohio/Hamilton Township) and Chelsea Carpenter (Cincinnati, Ohio) had consecutive seventh and eighth place finishes with throws of 12.01 meters (39-4) and 11.79 meters (38-7).

Elona Greenhoff (Eastlake, Ohio) took home a fifth-place victory in the high jump in her first-ever conference championship competition with a mark of 1.58 meters (5-01).

The 1,600-meterrelay team came out of the gate blazing as they had a team record run with a time of 4:19.85, good enough for sixth place. The team included junior pair Shalynn Dornbush (Hopedale, Ohio) and Caitlyn Tulloss (Utica, Ohio), and the freshman duo of Larkin Joseph (New Philadelphia, Ohio) and sophomore MacKenzie Ciganick (Bellaire, Mich.).

The 800-meter relay team had a great performance as they ran 1:53.08, one of their fastest times of the season making for an eighth-place finish. The relay team included Atkins, Joseph, Niamani Mayes, and Dornbush.

Joseph was busy in her first conference championship appearance as she also ran the 800-meter run clocking in at 2:27:54, which was good enough for  finish of seventh place.

University of Mount Union (177.5) dominated the meet taking first place. Ohio Northern University (147.5) took second place and Otterbein University (147) rounded out the top three teams. Capital placed seventh with 47 total points.

The Crusaders will be back in action at the Jessica Stark Last Chance Meet in The Capital Center (Columbus, Ohio) on Friday March, 4.
