ATLANTA, Ga. – The Capital University`s women's track and field team kicked of the season at the Emory Invitational at the Woodruff P.E. Center Track (Atlanta, Ga), Friday afternoon. The invite was a two day event with twenty-two scored events and the Crusaders walked away with a 14th-place finish out of a field of 34 teams.
The Crusaders 4x400-meter team is off to a good outdoor start finishing in the top half of the competition with a time of 4:15.29. The team included freshman Larkin Joseph (New Philadelphia, Ohio), junior pair Shalynn Dornbush (Hopedale, Ohio) Caitlyn Tulloss (Utica, Ohio), and sophomore Mackenzie Ciganick (Bellaire, Mich.).
The field events are kicking the season off right with sophomore Chelsea Carpenter (Cincinnati, Ohio) taking two top finishes in throws. Carpenter finished in second in discus with a throw of 39.60 meters (129-92), and a toss of 12.32 meters (40-41) in the shot put good enough for third.
Junior Ashley Freshkorn (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) was not too far behind her teammate in the shot put with a throw of 12.05 meters (39-53) earning her a fifth-place finish, and in the hammer throw hit a seventh place mark with a toss of 39.08 meters (128-21).
The host of the meet Emory University (109) took first place in the competition, while West Georgia University (80.50) took second place, and Rowan University (54) rounded out the top three teams in the competition.
The Crusaders will be back in action at the SRU Open at the William C. Lennox Track (Slippery Rock, Pa.) on Saturday, April. 2.
