Mayes Takes First at Otterbein Twilight Invitational

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Capital University's women's track and field team wrapped up their last meet before engaging in the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships at the Otterbein Twilight Invitational, Friday afternoon. The Crusaders finished the meet with a team ranking of fifth place out of a field of nine teams.

The runners this week showed up in a big way adding top-place finishes bringing in points for the Crusaders. Leading off was freshman Niamani Mayes (Cincinnati, Ohio) topping the 400-meter hurdles field with a first-place time of 1:08.84.

Sophomore Hunter Mouser (London, Ohio) had another top-place finish this week in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.54 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash, freshman Larkin Joseph (New Philadelphia, Ohio) served as Capital's top finisher, coming in fifth place at 1:02.12.Junior Shalynn Dornbush (Hopedale, Ohio) was on her tail with a sixth-place run of 1:03.41.

Sophomore Chelsea Carpenter (Cincinnati, Ohio) threw her way to a big mark of 37.57 meters (123-26).  Her throw placed her third overall and grabbed six points towards Capital's total.

Capital throwers captured two top spots going into the finals of the shot put. Junior Ashley Freshkorn (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) threw a season personal best of 12.10 meters (39-69) which led to a fourth-place finish. Sophomore Gracie Pesicka (Parma, Ohio) grabbed the last spot going into finals with a toss of 11.66 meters (38-25).

Senior Jenna Krieder (Coshocton, Ohio) made a big appearance in the hammer throw with a personal record mark of 39.38 meters (129-20). 

Siena Heights University walked away with the team win with 214 points. The host of the meet, Otterbein University, came in second place with 129 points. Spring Arbor University rounded out the top three teams with 117 points. Capital finished fifth with 40 points, edging out local Division II school Ohio Dominican (30).

The Crusaders will compete at the Williams Stadium (Wilmington, Ohio) next week as they gear up for the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship on April 29-30.
