DELAWARE, Ohio – Members of Capital University Track & Field competed at the Great Lakes Regional Final Qualifying Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday with hopes of making last-ditch efforts towards improving their overall marks.
Capital's highest finish of the day came in the men's shot put where sophomore Josh Miller's throw of 16.13 meters (52-11) earned him a second-place finish. Miller, who recorded his best mark of 16.38 meters (53-09) at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships, is currently 13th in the country and is in line to qualify for next week's national championships just as he did for the indoor season.
In the women's high jump, junior Emily Hilt placed fourth but achieved a new personal record by clearing 1.64 meters (5-04 ½), beating her own mark by 0.01 meters.
Junior Taylor Manivanh placed third in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.03 meters (36-02 ¼). Junior thrower Kassie Lee also earned fourth in the hammer throw with a launch of 44.23 meters (145-01).
Both Noah Meeker and Cole Williams competed in the 100-meter dash and the duo finished right next to each other in 22nd and 23rd place, respectively. Meeker finished in front with a time of 11.17 seconds and Williams stopped the clock at 11.62 seconds. Meeker also placed 11th in the 200-meter race with a time of 22.74 seconds while Williams' performance of 52.80 seconds in the 400-meter race earned him ninth in that contest.
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 23-25 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio and will be hosted by the University of Mount Union. The championship qualifiers will be finalized and announced after this weekend's final qualifying meets have concluded.
