While Capital University and Otterbein University have annually co-hosted tournaments to kick off their seasons, this year is different. Henceforth, this tournament will be known as the Pam Briggs Memorial Classic in honor and memory of the late, hall of fame Capital volleyball coach.
Pam Briggs was a native of nearby Reynoldsburg, Ohio and after a standout playing career at Kent State, she returned to Central Ohio to begin her coaching career. Briggs was an influential figure on Capital’s campus in a variety of ways that spanned the volleyball court, golf course, softball diamond, and the classroom for over 25 years. With more than 430 wins with the Crusaders, Briggs is Capital's winningest volleyball coach and third-winningest coach among all coaches across all sports, leading to her first-ballot Hall of Fame induction in 2017. More significant than the mark she left on the athletic field was the impact she made on countless young women’s lives between the volleyball court, softball field, golf course, and classroom.
