Women’s Cross Country Finishes Eighth at OAC Championship, Bernhardt Paces Cap

TWINSBURG, Ohio – The 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships were held on Saturday, November 2, and the Capital University women finished eighth out of nine teams. The championships were held at the Liberty Park Recreation Area in Twinsburg, Ohio.

Freshman Eva Bernhardt led the Capital pack with a 65th-place finish but set a new personal record in the 6,000-meter race. Bernhardt crossed the finish line in 26:15.2 to serve as Capital's first scorer. She was 3:47.2 off the pace of the race winner, Sydney Jenko of John Carroll University.

Fellow freshman Allison Costanzo was on Bernhardt's heels, finishing seven seconds behind and 10 seconds off her previous 6k best. Costanzo stopped the clock at 26:22.3, good for 67th place.

Rounding out the Capital scorers was Kayleigh Noecker (27:27.3), who placed 85th overall, and Heather Fryman (28:54.5) and Alexa Daley (29:18.8), who crossed the line in succession. Noecker beat her previous personal best at that distance by nearly 50 seconds. Fryman broke the 29:00 barrier for the first time this season.

While she did not score, freshman Willow Cox ran in her first 6k this season and finished the race in 29:38.6.

JCU's Sydney Jenko was crowned OAC Champion with five seconds separating her and teammate Cameron Bujaucius, and the Blue Streaks took the team title with 41 points. Baldwin Wallace University finished in second with 49 points. Capital finished eighth out of nine teams with 242 points, beating Muskingum by 25 points.

The Crusaders will rest up for the Great Lakes Regional Championship, which will be hosted at Calvin College (Mich.) on Saturday, November 16.
